Last week I was contact by Scotts about their new product, EcoSense Weed B Gon. They sent me a sample that I will try out and post about the results. It controls broad leaf weeds without harming your lawn and is derived from natural ingredients. Being natural it is safe for people and pets. With the pesticide ban a few years back I was pleased to hear a product is now available to replace the old chemical alternative.In a nut shell it is an iron solution. When sprayed on the weed it is adsorbed into the plant, oxidation then occurs inside the plant and the cell walls are destroyed. The grass on the other hand has thin leaves that don't absorb much iron and are not affected. It is said visible results occur within a few hours and the weed dies within a few days.
I will be testing this on a few weeds in the lawn, most notably dandelions, chickweed & common plantain. It is suppose to rain today so I will try it out on Friday. Look for a post on the results in a few days.
